One of our customers has got an Aston Martin DB9 Coupe, it’s a 2014 car. In a very rare and surprising moment, the variable valve timing system on his engine failed, and as such, the timing chain came off and there was extensive damage to the cylinder head on the engine.
This would mean that any franchise dealer or the majority of other specialists, would decide that the easiest thing to do is just to take the engine out and exchange it for a brand-new unit.
However, we’ve decided to inspect the engine ourselves and took the cylinder head out for further investigation.
It’s a very difficult job to do, but actually, it saved about two days’ worth of labor, therefore, saving the customer a lot of money. Once the engine was inspected, it turned out to be much better than we thought it was going to be. So we are currently in the process of refurbishing the cylinder head so we can rebuild the top of the engine. A project that we’re in the middle of doing now but it’s looking like it’s going to be successful.
